News About ME

Salutations, to all of you Homo Sapiens on the world wide web. And everyone else.

I'm proud to let you know that I am now on the "Principal Honor Roll" at the home of the Panthers.  I'm one of only 7 Freshman at my school who have achieved this.  My friend, Yenifer, was one of the 7 and she got a 4.25.  And I only got a 4.00cryBig Smile Just kidding, but I am extremely proud of Yenny.

The terrifying CSAPs are coming to our school in less than 2 weeks.Shocked I'm afraid, yet I know that if I don't think I can do it I won't be able to.  You may be wondering why there is so much pressure about it; well the reason is that if we do well on the CSAPs we get credit towards gaduation. I really want those extra credits so I'm going to work my butt off, study and get them.Shades

Why Reading Is Important

Smile In order that we have a more educated society learning to read is essential. The first reason reading is pivotal to society is reading legal documents at work such as applications, contracts and insurance policy’s. The second reason that reading is crucial is to understand signs while you are driving such as street sign, informational signs and highway sign. The third reason why reading is important is being able to read menus at restaurants, the reasons are being able to get the food you want, knowing the price and to know the special on the menu.

The first reason reading is important is being able to understand legal document at work. If you do not know how to read you can’t even fill out an application for work. It seems that it would be very frustrating to not even be able to fill out an application on your own. People hiring would look down on you and more than likely not give you the job. Even if you did you did get the job you would not be able to read the contracts involved with the job. For example not being able to read the employ hand book may result in injury. Can you imagine working at a construction job and not being able to read a sign that says “DO NOT ENTER WITHOUT A HARD HAT”? Without second thought you go without a hard hat and a brick falls on your head. Since you could not read the insurance policy for the job you think that you have benefits incase this happens. Later you find out you don’t and this means you will have pay for the injuries on you own.

The second explanation for why reading is vital is being able to read signs while you are driving. In order to prevent accidents, being able to read street names is very important. Envision yourself driving down the street. You are going to a friend’s house but you don’t know what street your friend lives on. But you do remember that the house is lime green with purple polka dots. You drive along and you see the house and freak out; afraid you’ll forget were the street is, so you turn straight into the street and run into another car. Or you may be traveling in Nebraska and really have to use the faculties but not being able to read informational signs you missed the one that read, “LAST RESTROOM FOR 95 MILES.” But you thought that the sign said the speed limit was 95 miles per hour. Until an officer of the law flips on his light turns on his siren and pulls you over and gets out of his car you still need to use the faculties. The officer walks up to the window and says “ma’am do you realize you are going 96 miles per hour?” Then the officer gives you the ticket, you having to use the faculties, you take the ticket willingly; knowing if you didn’t find a restroom there would be a mess.

Finally there is the issue of hunger. If you cannot read, you can’t understand restaurant menu. If you cannot understand a menu you may end up eating liver and onions or escargots for $150. Even though that may seem like it would never happen I would have to disagree. The reason being is I know someone who didn’t know how to read until he was a junior in high school it was very embarrassing to him. One day we were together and he was looking at the menu and he ordered something that was not even on the menu. Although didn’t pay $150 he was very embarrassed about the mistake.

In conclusion, reading is vital, significant, essential and crucial to our society. A lot of people may decide not to learn to read. For all of those who make that choice may choose to get hit on the head with a brick, drive 95 miles to the restroom, and pay $150 for liver with onions or snails.
